覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
preach に -ed を付けた形です。末尾の /tʃ/ が無声音なので -ed は /t/ と発音し、音節を増やさず「プリーチト」に近い音になります。
Add -ed to preach. Because preach ends in the voiceless sound /tʃ/, the ending is pronounced /t/ without adding another syllable.

preached の語源・成り立ち Etymology
preached は preach + -ed(過去・完了)で、preach は古フランス語 prechier、さらにラテン語 praedicare「公に告げる」にさかのぼる。prae-「前へ・公に」+ dicare「言い表す」からできており、「人前で語る」ので「説教する」になる。関連語は preacher, preaching。
Preached is the regular past-tense and past-participle form of preach, created by adding -ed. Preach entered Middle English through Old French prechier, from Latin praedicare, meaning “to proclaim publicly.” The Latin verb is associated with prae-, “before” or “forth,” and dicare, “to declare.” The history explains why preaching involves presenting a message openly to listeners, whether as a religious sermon or emphatic advice.
