プロレタリアート、つまり資本を持たず労働力を売って生活する労働者階級という意味です。日本語のカタカナ語とほぼ同じですが、政治思想や社会分析の文脈で使われる硬い語です。

Proletariat came into English through French prolétariat, based on Latin proletarius. In ancient Rome, a proletarius was a citizen of the lowest property class, whose proles, or “offspring,” was regarded as the person's principal contribution to the state. In nineteenth-century socialist writing, especially Marxist theory, the term was applied to wage workers who lacked ownership of the means of production. The suffix reflects the French formation naming a social class or collective body.
