radioはラテン語radius（光線、車輪のスポーク）が語源で、radi-は「放射状に伸びる線」を表します。radiationやradialと同根で、電波が四方へ広がるイメージを知ると、なぜradioが「ラジオ」なのか腑に落ちます。
Radio comes from Latin radius, meaning "ray" or "spoke of a wheel." The same root appears in radial and radiation. The name was used because radio waves spread outward like rays from a center.
