realigning は re-「再び」+ align「一直線に並べる」+ -ing。align は古フランス語 a-「〜へ」+ ligne「線」から来て、さらにラテン語 linea にさかのぼる。line や linear も同根で、『線を引き直して並べ直す』感覚から再調整の意味が見える。
