Rearmament is the process of building up military weapons and forces again, especially after reducing them before. The word is often used in political, military, and historical discussions.

rearmament は re-「再び」+ armament「軍備」です。armament はラテン語 armare「武装させる」+ -mentum にさかのぼり、related army, armor。つまり『もう一度武装を整えること』で、そのまま再軍備の意味になります。
