Redactions comes from redaction, from Late Latin redactio, based on redigere, meaning "to bring back" or "to reduce into order." That verb contains re- and agere, "to drive" or "do," also seen in agent and act. The word first referred to arranging or editing a text, and later also came to mean removing parts from a document.
