noun

登録とうろく

解説 Definition

registrations は、registration(登録、登録手続き)の複数形です。イベント、授業、サービスなどへの複数の登録や登録件数を表すときに使われます。

Registrations are individual acts, applications, or records of officially entering names or details for events, courses, services, or systems. The word is the plural form of “registration” and can also refer to the number of people or entries registered.

覚え方のコツ Memory Tip

単数形 registration「登録・登録手続き」に複数の -s を付けた形で、語末は /z/ と発音します。一人一人の申込や各登録記録を数えるときに registrations となり、receive thirty registrations「30件の登録を受ける」や online registrations「オンライン登録」のように使います。手続き全般を不可算的に言う場合は registration が自然です。

Start with registration, meaning the act or record of officially entering information, and add plural -s to form registrations. The ending is pronounced /z/. Use the plural when separate applications, entries, or records can be counted: an office may receive thirty registrations, check all registrations, or close online registrations on Friday. By contrast, singular registration can describe the general process, as in “Registration begins at nine.” Connecting the word with a list of names helps: each completed entry is one registration, and several entries are registrations.

例文

Online registrations close on Friday.

オンライン登録は金曜日に締め切られます。

We received thirty registrations this morning.

今朝、30件の登録を受け付けました。

The office checks all registrations before sending confirmation emails.

事務所は確認メールを送る前に、すべての登録を確認します。

registrations の語源・成り立ち Etymology

registrations は registration「登録」+ 複数の -s。registration は中世ラテン語 registrationem、さらに register にさかのぼり、register はラテン語 re-「後ろへ」+ gerere「運ぶ」。registrar, registry も同根で、「記録として運び戻して載せる」感覚から登録の意味になった。

Registrations is the plural of registration, with final -s. Registration came through Medieval Latin registratio and is based on register. Register ultimately developed from Medieval Latin registrum, a written record or list, related to Latin regerere, “to carry back” or “record,” from re- and gerere, “to carry.” Related English words such as registrar and registry preserve the central idea of entering information into an official record.
