Religionists are people who follow or strongly support a particular religion. The word is used when talking about religious groups, beliefs, or people connected by faith. It is a formal word and is less common than words like believers or followers.

religion が見えたらまず「宗教」を思い出す。その後ろの -ist は artist, Buddhist, scientist と同じで「その分野の人・その立場の人」を作る形、最後の -s は複数。つまり religionists は「ある宗教に属する人たち」と組み立てて取れる。religious は「宗教的な」という形容詞なので別物。believers よりも、個人の信仰心そのものより「同じ宗教的立場の人々」という集団感が出やすい。fellow religionists のように仲間内を指す語として見ると覚えやすい。
