representing の語源・成り立ち Etymology
ラテン語repraesentare（目の前に示す）が語源。re-（再び）+praesentare（提示する）の構成で、praesens（目の前にある＝present）と同根。「不在の人や物を再び目の前に現す」ことから「代表する・表現する」の意味に。同根語にpresent（提示する）やpresentation（発表）がある。
