SNSで他人の投稿を自分のアカウントから再共有し、フォロワーにも見えるようにする行為を指す。特にX（旧Twitter）で使われる表現で、有益な情報の拡散にも、未確認情報の拡散にもつながりうるため文脈が重要である。
Retweeting is the act of sharing another person's post again on X, formerly Twitter, so more people can see it. It is common in social media when spreading news, opinions, or interesting content. Retweeting does not always mean the person fully agrees with the post.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
re- が付くと「もう一度・再び」が基本だと押さえると、tweet を知っていれば retweet は「投稿をもう一度流す」と自然に取れます。さらに -ing が付くと動作そのものを表すので、retweeting は「リツイートすること」。share や repost と近いですが、特にXでは他人の投稿を自分のフォロワー側へ再拡散する場面でよく使います。retweet a post, stop retweeting rumors のような形で見て、「賛成」より「再共有」という機能語として覚えると混同しにくいです。
If `tweet` is the original post, `retweet` is sending it out again because of `re-`. Then `-ing` makes it the activity itself: `retweeting`. Think of it as closer to `resharing` than to agreeing with the post.

retweeting は re-「再び」+ tweet + -ing から成る語です。tweet は鳥のさえずりをまねた擬音語に由来し、短い投稿を表す語へ広がったため、全体で「投稿を再送すること」となりました。関連語は tweet、retweet です。
"Retweeting" is made from "re-" meaning "again," "tweet," and the ending "-ing." "Tweet" began as an imitative word for a bird's short chirping sound, then was applied to short online posts. From there, "retweet" developed with the sense of sending that short message again. Related forms are "tweet" and "retweet."
