役割とは、ある人や物が社会・組織・状況の中で果たすべき機能や立場のことです。個人が担う責任や期待される行動パターンを指します。役割を明確にすることで、チームや組織の連携が円滑になります。
A role is the function or position that a person or thing has in a situation. It is often used when talking about jobs, responsibilities, or characters in a play, movie, or story.

role は古フランス語 rolle、さらに中世ラテン語 rotulus「巻いた紙片」にさかのぼる。rot- には「回す・巻く」の感覚があり、俳優のせりふが巻物に記されていたことから「受け持ちの役」へ意味が育った。roll や rotate も近い仲間。
