sensitizing は sensitize に -ing が付いた形で、sensit- はラテン語 sentire「感じる」にさかのぼります。sense, sentiment と同じ根で、「感じる・反応する」力に関わる語です。そこから「刺激に対して反応しやすくする」、つまり化学・医薬では感作性のある、写真では感光性を高める、という意味になります。
