一見もっともらしく見えるが、実際には誤りや欺瞞を含んでいるさま。
Specious describes something that seems true, reasonable, or good at first, but is actually false or misleading. It is often used for arguments, explanations, or claims. This is a more advanced word with a negative meaning.

plausible（もっともありそうな）と並べて覚えると定着しやすい語です。plausible は中立〜肯定的に「ありそう」ですが、specious は『一見それっぽいが中身はあやしい』という否定的ニュアンスが強いです。よく specious argument / claim / excuse の形で出て、『筋が通って見えるのに実はごまかし』を表します。賢そう・整って聞こえるほど、逆に警戒する単語だと覚えると忘れにくいです。
