解説 Definition
subscriptions は subscription の複数形で、サービス・出版物・商品・会員資格などを継続して利用したり受け取ったりするために、定期的に料金を払う複数の契約を指します。
More than one arrangement under which a person or organization regularly pays to receive continuing access to a service, publication, product, or membership. The plural often refers to several separate plans, such as streaming, software, magazine, or gym subscriptions.
使い方 Usage
- monthly subscriptions「月額の定期契約」、print subscriptions「印刷版の定期購読」など、料金の周期や契約の種類を前に置きます。 Place the payment interval or type before subscriptions, as in monthly subscriptions or print subscriptions.
- manage subscriptions は「定期契約を管理する」、cancel subscriptions は「定期契約を解約する」です。 Manage subscriptions means to organize or oversee recurring plans. Cancel subscriptions means to end those arrangements.

- 一つの契約なら a subscription、複数なら subscriptions とします。日本語の「サブスク」では見えにくい単数・複数の違いに注意しましょう。 Use a subscription for one arrangement and subscriptions for more than one. English marks this distinction even when the Japanese loanword does not.

Subscriptions is the plural of subscription. Subscription comes through Latin subscriptio from subscribere, formed from sub-, “under,” and scribere, “to write.” The earliest underlying image is writing one’s name beneath a document as a sign of agreement, support, or commitment. The word later came to describe signing up and paying in advance for publications or services. The final -s in subscriptions marks more than one such arrangement.
