満たす
解説 Definition
色・光・感情などを、物や人の全体に穏やかに広げて満たすこと。受け身でもよく使われる。

覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
suffuse は、色・光・感情が液体のように全体へ静かに行き渡る、と覚えると定着しやすい語です。fill「中を満たす」よりも、夕焼けが空一面ににじむ、安堵が部屋を包む、恥ずかしさで顔全体が赤らむような穏やかな広がりを表します。suffuse A with B「AをBで満たす」と、be suffused with B「Bに満たされる」の両方が重要。the sky was suffused with orange light の映像を型ごと固定すると使いやすくなります。
Picture color, light, or emotion flowing like a liquid until it quietly reaches every part of something. Remember both patterns: suffuse something with a quality and be suffused with a quality.

suffuse の語源・成り立ち Etymology
ラテン語 suffundere「下から注ぐ、全体に広げる」に由来し、sub-「下に」と fundere「注ぐ」から成ります。英語では、液体を注ぐという物理的な感覚から、色・光・感情が一面に広がることを表す語になりました。
The verb comes from Latin suffundere, meaning “to pour underneath” or “to spread throughout.” It combines sub-, meaning “under,” with fundere, meaning “to pour.”
