A topi is a light helmet with a wide brim, traditionally worn in hot, sunny countries. It protects the head and face from strong sunlight. The word is somewhat old-fashioned and is often connected with colonial history.

Topi was borrowed into English from Hindi-Urdu topi, meaning "hat." It entered English during the colonial period in South Asia, when British speakers adopted local words for local clothing and objects.
