trisomy はギリシャ語 tri-「三」+ soma「体」に由来し、染色体を一つの「体・単位」と見た命名です。ふつう二本のところが三本あるので、「三つの体」という形がそのまま概念を表します。chromosome と somatic が近い仲間です。
