To decentralize means to move power, control, or decision-making away from one central place or authority. It is often used in government, business, technology, and organizations. The idea is to spread responsibility across different people, offices, or systems.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
まず central「中心の」と center を結びつけ、centralize を「中心に集める」と押さえると、decentralize はその逆で「中心から外へばらす」と自然に取れます。de- は undo や defrost のように「外す・反対にする」働きが多い接頭辞なので、この形をまとめて覚えると定着しやすいです。組織なら「本社に集めた権限を各支部へ戻す」、ITなら「一つのサーバーや管理者に頼らない」と場面で思い出すと強いです。centralize と対で覚えるのが最短です。
