vedic の語源・成り立ち Etymology
Vedic はサンスクリット語 veda「知識・聖なる知」を語幹に、形容詞化の -ic が付いた語。さらに veda は印欧祖語 *weid-「見る→知る」にさかのぼり、video や wisdom と同根なので、「ヴェーダに関する」の核に“知”があると納得できる。
Vedic comes from Sanskrit veda, meaning "knowledge" or "sacred knowledge," with the English adjective ending -ic. Veda goes back to an ancient Indo-European root meaning "to see" and then "to know."
