解説 Definition
売買契約における買い手、つまり商品や不動産を購入する側を指す法律用語。日常英語では buyer の方が一般的だが、契約書や法的説明では売り手を表す vendor に対応する語として用いられる。
A person who buys something, especially in legal or business situations. It is often used in contracts, property sales, and formal documents. It is the opposite of vendor or seller.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
契約書のペアで覚える語。日常語なら buyer だが、法律・不動産では vendor（売り手）と vendee（買い手）が対で並ぶことが多い。vendor を見たら、相手側の購入者が vendee。単独で暗記するより、このセットで固定すると残りやすい。-ee は employee, payee, addressee など「その立場の人」を表す語で見かけるので、文書語らしい形だと意識するとよい。会話ではほぼ buyer、契約文では vendee という使い分けも一緒に覚える。
Remember it as the partner of `vendor`. In legal or property language, `vendor` is the seller and `vendee` is the buyer. It is easier to fix the word in memory as a pair than to study it alone.

vendee はアングロ・フランス語の法律語に由来し、もとは vendre「売る」の過去分詞形に関係します。vendre はラテン語 vendere「売る」から来た語。英語では -ee が「その行為を受ける人」を表す形として固定し、売られる側、つまり商品や不動産を買い受ける人を vendee と呼ぶようになりました。地名 Vendée とは別語源です。
Vendée is a place name from western France, taken from the name of the Vendée River. The river name is thought to come from a Celtic root *vindo-, meaning "white" or "bright," related to Welsh gwyn. The idea may have been the shining or bright appearance of the water, which later became the name of the region.
