私たち

話し手が自分を含む複数の人を指す代名詞。聞き手を含む場合と含まない場合があり、文脈で判断する。日常会話から文章まで非常によく使われ、集団としての立場や共同の行動、意見、経験を述べるときの主語になる。
We is a pronoun that means the speaker and one or more other people. It is used when talking about a group that includes yourself. In some contexts, it can also be used more generally to speak for a team, family, or community.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
一人称の基本セットでまとめて覚えると定着しやすい語。I が「私」なら、複数になって we は「私たち」。主語の形なので、we are / we have / we need to ... のように文頭で非常によく使われる。聞き手を含むかどうかは文脈次第だが、まずは「I を個人ではなくチームとして言う形」と捉えると覚えやすい。目的語の us、所有の our / ours も一緒に整理すると混同しにくい。they は外側の集団、we は話し手側の内側の集団、という対比も有効。

古英語の we に由来し、さらにゲルマン祖語にさかのぼる。ドイツ語の wir、オランダ語の wij と同系で、英語の基本代名詞として長く形を保ってきた。一人称複数を表す非常に古い語の一つである。
From Old English we, from a very old Germanic source. It is related to German wir and Dutch wij, showing the same ancient first-person plural root. The form has stayed remarkably stable because it is one of the oldest and most basic pronouns in English.
