新しい
解説 Definition
以前には存在しなかったものや最近作られたものを指す形容詞です。物事や考え、経験などに幅広く使われます。古いものと対比して新鮮さや最新性を伝える場合にも使います。
New means recently made, created, bought, or introduced. It can describe something that did not exist before or something that someone has only had for a short time. It is also used for a person or idea that is different from what came earlier.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
new はまず old の反対として固定すると覚えやすい語です。new book, new idea, new job のように「新しくできた物」だけでなく「初めてのこと」にも広く使えます。brand-new なら「できたて・まっさら」で強調、new to me なら「世の中では古くても自分には初めて」。news と形は近いですが、news は「新しい情報」の名詞なので区別すると整理しやすいです。
Fix `new` in your mind as the opposite of `old`. Then it becomes easy to use with many nouns, not only things just created but also things that are new in your life: `new job`, `new idea`, `new to me`. Keep it separate from `news`, which is a noun for new information.
