Etymology
English zombie was borrowed from Haitian Creole zonbi and entered English in accounts of Haitian religious and supernatural traditions. The deeper origin is generally associated with Central or West African languages, although the precise path and source are debated; forms such as Kongo nzambi have often been proposed. In later English-language popular culture, the word became the familiar name for an animated corpse in horror stories, films, comics, and games.
