すでに述べたことに加えて別の事柄も該当することを示す副詞です。日本語の「〜もまた」「さらに」に相当し、新しい情報を付け加えるときによく使います。文頭・文中・文末のどこにも置けますが、通常は動詞の前や「〜である」などの動詞や助動詞の直後に位置します。
Also means in addition, too, or as well. It is used when you add another idea, fact, person, or thing to what you already said. It often appears before the main verb or after a form of be.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
also は「情報を一つ足す印」として覚えると残りやすい。基本感覚は too や as well に近いが、also はやや中立で書き言葉でも使いやすく、文中に置かれやすい。I also like it. のように一般動詞の前、She is also happy. のように be動詞の後に来る配置をセットで記憶すると定着する。文末に置きやすい too / as well との位置の違いも重要。not only A but also B は定番表現なので、追加の合図として丸ごと覚える。
Think of `also` as an adding word: it brings one more piece of information. Its position helps you remember it: before a main verb in `I also like it`, but after `be` in `She is also happy`. Compare it with `too` and `as well`, which often go at the end.

also は古英語 eall swa「まったくその通り」が縮まった語で、all「全部」と so「そのように」に分けられる。『それも同じように全部含めて』という感覚から「また」の意味になり、all や always にも広がりの発想が残る。
Also comes from Old English eall swa, literally meaning "entirely so" or "just so." It combines all and so, and the idea was originally about something being the same in full. From that sense, it developed into the meaning of addition or inclusion. The same broad idea of "all" appears in related words like all and always.
