解説 Definition

ラテン語 amylum（デンプン）、さらにギリシャ語 amylon（挽かれていないもの、a- 否定 + mylos 臼）に由来。デンプンから最初に分離された化学基のため命名された。関連語: amylase（アミラーゼ＝デンプン分解酵素）、amyloid（アミロイド）。
Amyl comes from Latin amylum, meaning "starch," which came from Greek amylon. The Greek word originally meant something like "not ground at the mill," from a- and mylos, "mill."
