ギリシャ語 analekta 「選び集めたもの」がラテン語を経て英語へ。ana-（まとめて）+ leg/lect（集める・選ぶ）から成り、『論語』が言葉を集成した書物だと語源から見える。select も同根。
Analects comes from Greek analekta, meaning "things gathered up" or "selected passages," and it passed through Latin into English. It is related to a root meaning "to gather" or "choose." The word came to refer to a collected set of sayings or texts. Select is from the same broader root family.
