英語 leg は古ノルド語 leggr に由来し、北欧系の言葉から入った語です。もとは「脚」だけでなく棒や骨のような軸を思わせる語で、leggings や bowleg も同じ語幹。脚が体を支える“柱”のように捉えられていたと考えると意味がつかみやすいです。
"Leg" comes from Old Norse "leggr," so it entered English from a Scandinavian source. The older word could suggest not only a limb but also something like a supporting rod or bone.
