An anatomist is a scientist or medical expert who studies the structure of the body. This can include the human body, animals, or body parts. The word is mainly used in biology and medicine.

anatomist はギリシャ語 anatomē「切り分けること」に由来し、ana-「ばらして」＋temnein「切る」が核です。-ist「…する人」が加わった形で、anatomy や atom と同系。体を切り分けて構造を明らかにする人、というのが解剖学者です。
"Anatomist" comes from Greek through Latin and French, built on "anatomy" plus the suffix "-ist" for a person. The Greek source, "anatomē," meant "cutting up," from parts meaning "up" and "cut."
