鹿やヘラジカなどの鹿類の頭に生える角。通常は木の枝のように枝分かれした形状で、種類によっては雌にも生えます。

antler はアングロ・フランス語 antoillier にさかのぼり、背景にはラテン語 ante-「前」+ ocularis「目の」があるとされます。ocular と同じ eye 系で、もとは目の前に出る角の枝を指したため、そこから枝角全体の名へ広がったと考えると納得できます。
Antler came into English from Anglo-French antoillier. It is often linked to Latin elements meaning "before" and "eye," suggesting an early sense for the front branch of a deer's horn near the eyes. From that narrower meaning, it later became the general English word for the whole horn structure.
