「ヘラジカ」は、シカ科の中で最大の動物で、北米やユーラシアの北部の森林地帯に生息しています。大きな平たい角（オスのみ）と長い脚が特徴で、英語では北米では「moose」、ヨーロッパでは「elk」と呼ばれることが多いです。雄大な体格と角から、力強さの象徴とされることもあります。
An elk is a large northern deer. In British English the word can denote the animal called a moose in North America, whereas in North American English it normally denotes the wapiti, a different large deer with branching antlers.
