Oversaturated means containing more of something than is normal, balanced, or useful. It can be used in science for a solution, in photography for colors that are too strong, or in business for a market with too many similar products. The word usually suggests an excessive amount.

over- は overwork, overeat と同じく「やりすぎ・多すぎ」の合図。saturated は「十分に満ちた・これ以上入らない」状態なので、oversaturated は「満杯を通り越して過剰」と捉えると残りやすい。oversaturated market なら商品や競合が多すぎる市場、oversaturated colors なら彩度を上げすぎた不自然な色。単なる saturated より一段強く、不足ではなく excess 側の語。overrated とは別物で、「評価が高すぎる」ではない点にも注意。
`Over-` often means too much, as in `overeat` or `overwork`. `Saturated` already means full, so `oversaturated` means more than full, pushed too far. That is why it fits both `an oversaturated market` and `oversaturated colors`.
