An assessee is a person or organization that is being officially assessed or evaluated. The word is common in legal, tax, and business contexts, where someone's income, property, or value is being examined.

assess が「評価する」だと分かれば、assessee は「評価される側」。-ee は employee, interviewee, trainee などと同じく「その行為を受ける人」を表すので、assessor（評価する人）と対で覚えると混同しにくいです。人事評価、税務査定、試験の場面で「評価の対象になっている当人」を指し、candidate よりも“今まさに査定されている側”の響きが強い、と押さえると記憶に残ります。
Use the ending `-ee` as your memory hook. Like `employee` or `trainee`, it marks the person who receives the action, so an `assessee` is the person being assessed. Pair it with `assessor` to remember the contrast: one judges, the other is judged.

assessee は assess「評価する・査定する」に、動作を受ける人を表す -ee が付いた語です。assess はラテン語 assidere「そばに座る」にさかのぼり、判定者の横で額を決めるイメージから「査定する」になりました。関連語は assessor, assessment です。
Assessee is formed from assess plus the suffix -ee, which marks the person affected by an action. Assess comes through Anglo-French and Medieval Latin from Latin assidere, literally "to sit beside." The idea was of officials sitting by to fix a value or tax, which led to modern words like assessor and assessment.
