at present の語源・成り立ち Etymology
presentはラテン語praesens（目の前にある）が語源で、prae-（前に）＋esse（ある）の現在分詞形に分解できる。「目の前に存在している」→「現在の」と意味が発展した。関連語にpresence（存在）、represent（代表する）がある。at presentで「今現在は」という時を示す慣用表現になった。
