axiomatic はギリシャ語 axioma「当然と認められること」に、形容詞化の -atikos が付いた形に由来し、ラテン語・フランス語経由で英語に入った。もとは「価値があると思われること」なので、「証明抜きで前提として認められる」=「公理的な」と腑に落ちる。関連語は axiom, axiology。
