Bohemian は地名 Bohemia（ボヘミア）に由来し、フランス語 bohémien を経て英語化した語です。中世フランスでロマの人々がボヘミア経由と考えられたため「放浪的で型にはまらない人」の意味が生まれ、関連語に Bohemia, bohemianism があります。
Bohemian comes from Bohemia, the historical region in central Europe, by way of French bohémien. In medieval France, Roma people were thought to have come through Bohemia, so the word began to be used for people seen as wandering or unconventional. From there it developed the modern cultural sense, seen also in bohemianism.
