Cagey means careful, guarded, and not willing to give much information. It is often used when someone seems cautious because they do not fully trust others or do not want to reveal their plans.

cagey は、まず基本語 cage を思い出すと覚えやすいです。何でも外に出すのでなく、言いたいことを“中にしまっておく”感じがあるので、単なる careful よりも「本心や情報を見せない」ニュアンスが強め。質問に対してはっきり答えず、少しはぐらかす場面でよく使われます。be cagey about the details のように about と組みやすく、「慎重」だけでなく「口が堅い・警戒して明かさない」とセットで覚えると残りやすいです。
