発信者とは、電話やメール、テキストメッセージなどで連絡してきた人のことです。誰かが他人に通信を開始したときの送信側の人を指します。
A caller is a person who makes a phone call. In some contexts, it can also mean a person who visits or contacts someone, but phone use is the most common meaning today.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
caller は基礎語 call を軸に覚えるのが最短です。call が「電話する・呼ぶ」、-er が「その動作をする人」なので、teacher や writer と同じ作りで「電話をかける人・呼びかける人」→「発信者」と取れます。電話では caller ID, the caller said ..., first caller などの形でよく見ます。receiver は受ける側、caller は連絡を始めた側。call を見た瞬間に「動作」、caller を見た瞬間に「その人」と切り替えると定着しやすいです。
Build it from `call` + `-er`, just like `teach` -> `teacher` or `write` -> `writer`. That makes `caller` easy to remember as the person who starts the call. Phrases like `caller ID` and `the caller said...` are useful fixed examples.

callerはcall「呼ぶ」＋-er「…する人」。callは古ノルド語kalla「大声で呼ぶ」にさかのぼり、-erは古英語系の行為者語尾です。もともと「呼びかける人」なので、電話では自然に「発信者」となり、recallやcallingも同根です。
Caller is formed from call and the agent ending -er. Call comes from Old Norse kalla, meaning to cry out or summon in a loud voice. So the word first meant a person who calls out, and later it was naturally used for someone making a telephone call. Related words include calling and recall.
