collegialityはラテン語collegium系で、col-「共に」+ leg-「任命する」+ -ityと見られます。原義は「共に任命された者たちの関係」で、そこから対等な成員が協力し合議する感覚が育ちました。colleagueやcollegeも同じ核を持つ語です。
