「corona」は太陽や他の天体の外層大気（コロナ）を指す名詞で、皆既日食の際に肉眼でも観察できます。また、王冠や光輪を意味することもあります。近年では新型コロナウイルス（COVID-19）との関連でも広く知られるようになりました。
