Usage
Memory Tip
Add -ing directly to correct, without doubling the final t. Remember the image of taking something wrong, inaccurate, or misaligned and making it right.

Etymology
ラテン語 corrigere(正す)から。 関連語: correct(正しい)、direction(方向)。
Correcting is the -ing form of correct. Correct entered English through Latin correctus, the past participle of corrigere, “to make straight, set right, or reform.” Corrigere combines an assimilated form of com- with regere, “to guide, rule, or keep straight.” The physical image of straightening something developed naturally into the abstract sense of removing errors or faults.
