dash は『勢いよくはねかける』、board は古英語 bord『板』に由来します。もとは馬車で泥のはねを防ぐ前板のことでしたが、のちに車の計器盤を指すようになり、『情報を一目で見る面』の意味へ広がりました。関連語は keyboard、snowboard。
