カフェインを除去した飲料や製品。通常はコーヒーや紅茶から化学処理によってカフェインを取り除いたもの。
Decaffeinated describes a drink, especially coffee or tea, that has had most or all of its caffeine removed. People often choose it when they want the taste without the stimulating effect of caffeine. In everyday speech, it is often shortened to "decaf."

decaffeinated は caffeinated（カフェイン入り）に de-「取り除く」が付いた形と見ると覚えやすいです。中心は caffeine なので、まず caffeinated coffee / tea = カフェインあり、そこから de- で逆向きになり「抜いた」と取ると定着します。会話では decaf と略されることも多く、decaffeinated coffee の形でよく出ます。caffeine-free と近いですが、語形としては「成分を後から除いた」感じを意識すると混同しにくいです。

decaffeinated は de-「除く」+ caffein(e) + -ated から成る語で、caffeine はドイツ語 Koffein、coffee にさかのぼる。つまり「コーヒー成分を取り除いた」が核で、caffeine や caffeinated と並べると意味の骨組みが見える。
Decaffeinated is made from de-, meaning removal, plus caffeine, plus -ated. Caffeine comes through German Koffein and is linked to coffee. The word therefore originally meant having the caffeine taken out, and that structure is still clear if you compare it with caffeinated and caffeine.
