Devaluing means reducing the value, importance, or respect given to something. It can be used for money, goods, ideas, work, or even people’s feelings and contributions. The word often suggests unfair or harmful lowering of worth.

value が分かれば核はそのまま「価値」。そこに de- が付くと下向き・減少の感覚になるので、devalue で「価値を下げる」と取りやすいです。通貨なら devalue a currency、評価なら devalue someone’s work / achievements が定番。単に値段が自然に落ちるというより、政策・判断・扱いによって価値を引き下げる響きがあります。underestimate は見積もりが低い、devalue は価値そのものを下げる、depreciate は資産価値の下落で出やすい、と並べると整理しやすいです。devaluing はその進行中・反復の形です。
