disjunction はラテン語 disiunctio に由来し、dis-「離れて」+ junct「結ぶ」+ -ion から成ります。junction や join も同根で、本来は「結合をほどくこと」です。だから論理でも、一つに結ばず選択肢を並べる「論理和」に使われます。
