Egalitarianism is the belief that all people should be treated as equals and have the same basic rights and opportunities. The word is common in social and political discussions about fairness in society, schools, and workplaces.

equal / equality を知っていれば核はつかみやすい語。egalitarian は「平等を重んじる」、そこに -ism が付いて「主義・思想」になると考えると整理しやすい。ポイントは「みんな同一にする」ではなく、権利・機会・待遇の差を小さくしようとする発想だという点。政治、教育、職場制度の話で出やすく、対比では elitism（エリート重視）や hierarchy（階層性）を置くと記憶に残る。equal と見え方が少し違っても、平等系の語族だとまとめて覚えると強い。
