electrochemistry は electro-「電気」+ chemistry「化学」。前者はギリシャ語 elektron「琥珀」、後者はアラビア語 al-kimiya にさかのぼり、electron や chemical も同根。琥珀の電気が化学変化を動かす学問名だと考えると腑に落ちる。
