聖地や聖堂に神聖なものを祀ること。転じて、ある観念や価値を大切に保護し尊重することを意味する。
To enshrine something means to protect or preserve it because it is important and deserves respect. It is often used for rights, values, or principles written into laws or traditions. It can also literally mean placing something in a shrine.

en-「中へ」+ shrine「聖所」から成る語です。shrine は古英語 scrin、さらにラテン語 scrinium（箱・書類箱）にさかのぼり、もとは『大切なものを納める箱』でした。そこから『神聖に納める』ひいて『祀る・大切に守る』となり、関連語に shrine や enshrinement があります。
