Etymology
Georgette はギリシャ語 georgos(農夫:ge=大地+ergon=仕事)の女性形。
The fabric name comes from Georgette de la Plante, a French dressmaker associated with its introduction in the early twentieth century. Her given name is the French feminine form of Georges, ultimately derived from Greek geōrgos, “farmer” or “worker of the land,” formed from gē, “earth,” and ergon, “work.” Thus, a personal name of Greek origin later became an international term for a lightweight, crinkled cloth.
