セメント、モルタル、または類似の材料を目地・継ぎ目・ひびなどに充填する行為です。隙間を埋めたり構造を補強したりする建設プロセスを指します。
Grouting is the process of filling gaps, holes, or spaces with a thick material called grout. It is common in construction work, such as fixing tiles or strengthening the ground. The word often refers to both the material and the work of putting it in.

まず grout を「タイルの目地やひびのすき間に流し込んで埋める材料」とセットで覚えると、grouting はその -ing 形で「グラウトを入れて埋める作業・工程」だと取りやすいです。建設現場では fill cracks, inject grout, between tiles の場面を思い浮かべると定着します。coating が表面を覆う感じ、sealing が密閉する感じなのに対し、grouting は“すき間の内部を充填する”のが核心です。

groutingはgrout「流し込むモルタル」に-ingが付いた語で、groutは古英語gruta「粗びき粉」に由来します。さらにゲルマン祖語の「すりつぶす」系にさかのぼり、ざらついた粒状のものという感覚が、すき間に詰める材料名になりました。関連語はgrout、gritです。
