上腕骨は、肩から肘までの上腕にある長い骨です。人間の骨格系の重要な部分で、腕の動きを支えます。
The humerus is the long bone in the upper arm, between the shoulder and the elbow. It is an anatomical term used in medicine, biology, and health contexts. Be careful not to confuse it with "humorous," which means funny.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
humerus は単体で覚えるより、腕の骨の位置関係で固めると残りやすい語です。肩から肘までが humerus、肘から先の前腕が ulna / radius。つまり「上腕の一本もの」が humerus。形容詞 humeral（上腕の・肩の）と並べると語族でも定着します。医療英語では fracture of the humerus のように骨折文脈でよく見ます。なお humorous（ユーモラス）とはつづりが1字違いで、o が入るかどうかに注意すると混同しにくくなります。

ラテン語 humerus「肩・上腕」がそのまま語源で、複雑な接頭辞よりも体の部位名そのものが核です。humeral も同根で、もとは肩周辺を指した語が、腕を持ち上げる骨の中心として「上腕骨」へ定着したと見ると意味がつながります。
